Feed me wine

Tomorrow, I'm going home to hang out with my grandpa on his porch swing and then, later, in a maternity waiting room. Did I mention that my sister-in-law is having a baby tomorrow? My sister-in-law is having a baby tomorrow. (I will be more excited when Lucy gets here. I promise.)

This weekend, I leave for two months to do anesthesia rotations in North Carolina and New York. The Grandpa that I know probably won't be here when I get back. Later today, I'm going to work on writing a little something, a story I want to tell him. I'll sneak it into his Bible tomorrow. He does a morning devotional, so he'll find it when he's sitting in the park on Thursday, watching God wake up that corner of the earth.

If I'm still in one piece when I get done writing, maybe I'll come back here and cry to all of you. Get a bottle of red ready. Fuck the migraine it'll give me. I'll drink it anyway.

uh. my heart sank way down reading this post and my eyes immediately filled with tears, and that is nothing like what it does to you I'm sure. it gets me to thinking about the "what could have been's/what more could I have done's/if I had only knowns" with my grandpa and makes me smile to think that you are writing a story for yours. i love that.

Oh that is SO VERY SPECIAL Terroni! You are going to be so glad you spent these moments reflecting and sharing with him your feelings. I took the cowards root when my favorite Grandpa got cancer because I couldn't handle it. You are obviously way more mature than I was 20 years ago when going through it myself. Blessings
Oh, and congrats on making it through your exams! :)

I have 5 bottles of wine, and some vanilla vodka. It's yours if you need it, and so is my ear. I'm so glad that you're spending time with your Grandfather, and I know that he feels blessed to be spending time with you. Love.

Ignore the sprog, it won't know you're there; enjoy every last moment with your grandfather. Say and do the things with him that most people never get the chance to do.

I don't know how one would begin to write something like that. An intense undertaking worth more than all the wine in the world.

ps--if the sulfites are the problem, organic wines tend to have much lower sulfites. And some are actually quite good!

But if you're like me and one glass leads to three leads to a headache, well....everyone has their own home remedy for that.

Bittersweet little one and that's going to be very very difficult to write. Grandpa has his strong faith to see him through though and you just need to do what you need to do. Keep breathing and try white rum or vodka instead of the wine; and eat while you drink. Failing that, maxolon and promethazine, IM and sleep, if you can, until the headache goes away.
