Thanks!

I'd be thrilled with any of the programs on my list. Thursday will be the icing on the cake. And speaking of food, I'm going to celebrate the end of some serious GI upset with a snack.

Sara, I never answered your question, did I?

This is a match process. I make a list of where I'd like to work. Residencies make a list of who they'd like to hire. A computer makes 21,000 matches out of all the medical student and residency lists.

The key to success in the process is to put a lot of great programs on your list so that no matter where you end up, you'll be happy.

Unfortunately, every year, there are about 1,000 students out of the 21,000 who don't get a match. No one on their list has a spot for them and a match couldn't be made. So, over the next 2 days, they call around and try to scramble (it's actually called The Scramble) for an open position.

My position is a done deal now, but they wait until Thursday to tell us where we're headed to give the scramble a chance to find others spots. The idea is that we can then all celebrate together.

At noon on Thursday, all over the country, medical students will open envelopes with their new jobs inside.

That's sooooo crazy how that works.

This must be all the excitement of every childhood holiday wrapped up together! You've earned this match T! Can't wait to hear your news. :)

Oooh, I can barely wait. Congratulations little one. (As if you were NOT going to get a job).

My mind boggles at the number of graduates each year! 21,000 is amazing but then the US population is over ten times ours so I suppose the figures match after all. I'm just trying to think what 21,000 new doctors would do for our health system though. Wow! It would be so good Terroni if you decided to come to Australia, Adelaide in particular, and work one day and then you can attend to my back, my hips, my knees, my feet, my head and my arthritic fingers. Hee, hee. Yes, I'm that selfish. :)
