So...are you courting anyone? he asked.

Courting?
Who says that?

Well...apparently he does.

I won't be courting him anytime soon.

In using such terminology, it is wise to remember that "to court" refers to the male of the human species who must court a lady - that is, to take her to court. (No, silly, not the judicial kind. The royal kind.)

Oh heck, I just made that all up. But still. I don't think a woman courts a guy. She might ask him out for coffee, or a movie, though.

I'm glad you won't be courting an antiquated fellow like that. Jeeze Luuueeeeze!

Yeah, I thought it was strange, too to hear a man ask you if you were courting, rather than bing courted. An old word for an old idea.

That sounds to me like some sort of bullshit line that a guy would eek out in order to sound worldly.

I'd say, "No, I'm not courting anyone? Are you planning on going to divorce court soon?"

I'm "courting".
Sometimes we even get chaperoned.
It's nice.

But then I'm old …

I like it, deep down I'm that sort of old fashioned girl...unless he was sleazy and it was obviously a line... but if he talks that way all the time, yeah I'd court away. hehehe

sleazy,
and about as sexy as plastic dinnerware

obviously a line

(not from the married resident, by the way)

Lately, I've been meeting men who are, sadly, a bit like dogs...sniffing every hydrant, looking for a place to lift their leg.

No real respect.
No class.

sometimes it's nice to have the idiots & creeps filter themselves out immediately. saves effort for everyone else.
