So incompetent
Where ya been?
ICU
Whatcha doing?
Hell if I know.
How's that going?
Could be worse...
It's not as dirty as roofing,
not as disheartening as marriage.
But, I've never felt so incompetent.
When will you be back?
This weekend...after I sleep.

Ah. Yes. I remember those days. Go to sleep for about 15 hours and then you will feel semi human again.
And the ICU is a scary place to start so don't be discouraged.
You will be fine. Really.
Thanks, M.
Wow! Roofing's dirty?
I gotta find me a roofer!
Wow, I admire so much what you are doing! Sleep! and sleep well my dear.
Hang in there hun.
I suffered massive culture shock on my first high needs high risk shift. 17 hours awake watching a suicidal child watch Dawn of the dead.
Sleep, a good dvd and comfort food helps.
I'm just glad it isn't me.
Wow. I cannot even imagine. Have a good sleep.
You'll find your feet, mate. In the meantime, have a good rest and take care.
Cheers,
Vic
You know it will take time to adjust and find your feet in the ICU, but it will happen. One day you'll come in and realize you didn't have to ask questions or second guess for the umpteenth time.
Be good to yourself.

I just re-read this...Not as disheartening as marriage...that now strikes me as a rather funny thing to say.
Thank you all for the encouragement. I hope to be back to writing by Sunday.
Don't have a whole lot to say, but I'm thinkin about you. Get some rest.
ICU, I remember that place. Actually, just visited a friend from school there last Saturday. He had an aneurysm two months ago and he's currently in a coma.
But I also remember it from my hospital-working days. That's the place where all the issues start piling up on top of one another, and the treatment for one thing is countraindicated because of something else, and all the meds conflict with each other, and...yeah. I remember.
Gads, and YOU'RE the one everyone is going to be looking at for answers, aren't you?
